The new 3.8 version of WordPress (called “Parker” in honor of Charlie Parker, bebop innovator) was released yesterday. It’s been quite a while since the WordPress admin area has seen a new design. That finally changes in version 3.8. This version brings a new look to the entire admin dashboard, including a more colorful appearance with an uncluttered design which centers on clarity and simplicity.
The new font that is utilized (Open Sans) provides simple, friendly, and easy to read text that works well for both desktop and mobile viewing.
People accessing the internet use a variety of devices. Whether it be via a Smartphone, a tablet, a notebook or a desktop, the new WordPress version adapts accordingly. The Dashboard also has eight new color schemes to fit your particular tastes, and each can be previewed and changed under Users->Your Profile.
The new design simplifies working with widgets so there is less dragging and scrolling required. With a large monitor, multiple widget areas stack side-by-side to use the available space. When using a tablet, just tap a widget to add it. Truly a responsive design.
Version 3.8 comes with a new default theme called Twenty Fourteen. You can create a beautiful magazine-style site with WordPress and Twenty Fourteen. Choose a grid or a slider to display featured content on your homepage. Customize your site with three widget areas or change your layout with two page templates.
WordPress is one of the most popular CMS platforms today and with the enhancements in this new version, it will help keep the web developer happy, while still providing a better interface for the casual maintenance done by a user.
